The Hertford Theatre, formerly Castle Hall, is a true multi-purpose venue, featuring theatre, cinema, gallery, studio, café/bar and River Room conference facility.
The cafe serves sandwiches, wraps and snacks, so is a good place to grab a light lunch. Otherwise there are lots of eating establishments nearby.
Buggys can be left in the back of the auditorium and the toilet facilities are fine with baby changing facilities in the disabled cubicle.
The auditorium consists of a few rows on the flat with lots of tiered seating behind. We sat two rows from the front but I would imagine the view is fine from everywhere.
It’s also easy to get out to the loos mid show if you need to (important when taking a youngster to the theatre!) If you’re right at the back of the tiered seating, I understand you can go down stairs at the back to get to the toilets.
Ice cream at the interval is £2 a pop (Oct 2013) and you can get soft drinks for kids at the bar.
We drove and parked in St Andrew’s pay and display car park from where you can walk to the theatre in less than five minutes.
Alternatively. you can walk through the castle gardens where you can sit by the river and watch the ducks or visit the children’s play area.
All in all it was a very stress free trip to a nice little theatre!
